White Harte Regatta

Many thanks to the White Harte for hosting the annual White Harte Regatta Day on Saturday.

The westerly winds made a true Olympic course a little ambitious, but we had two good races over short windward-gybe-leeward courses, and everyone was happily exhausted!

In Class 1 the overall result was a tie, decided on a tie-breaker between Zutsy and Desperado, with Chilli Padi third.

In Class 2 the MacGabhann brothers battled it out for first and second place, with Boomerang first and Tempo second, and Ladyhawk third on a tie breaker with Hot Potato.

Unfortunately, the forecast severe gale conditions on Sunday meant that the Granuaile Trophy was cancelled.

All race results are now available on-line on the 2012 Race Results page.

Jumbo makes its Mark

The Hassons have revealed the reason for the absence of their new J24 Jumbo from Lough racing. This note was received over the weekend ……

“I’m sure the membership are getting anxious by our absence…well just to update, We have hauled our new WMD [weapon of mass destruction], Jumbo to Howth YC for the J24 East Ireland Championships which is taking place this weekend. We are delighted to be representing LSYC at the event and will do so at the IRC Nationals at the end of May, also at Howth YC, and the J24 North Ireland Championships at Lough Erne in mid June.

We are also racing in the colours of SeaFest 2012 to help to raise the profile of what is becoming our major regional annual event, and are officially entered as SeaFest 2012 for these events [see the links below for more].

We are ably aided in this endeavour by the youth and talent of Stephen Doherty and the force that is Luke McBride!

We’re hoping for a big impact in our first event but realise that the Dublin crews will enjoy putting us “rural” sailors [as we have been referred to!!] to the sword. Nonetheless, we are prepared to sweat every last drop from our worthless bodies to climb as high up the results page as we can.

Weekend Crew Muster

Many thanks to James Eyre and Conor Desmond, who arranged a well attended Crew Muster early on Saturday morning at the Clubhouse.
Hearty Irish Breakfasts were available from Cafe B-Calmed, with sail training videos, and a talk by James on sailing basics with a question and answer session.
Plans to get afloat for some practical experience didn’t work out this time, but this looks like an excellent format for future events.

James has promised talks on sail trim, racing techniques, and any other topics of interest to members.  There may be sessions with invited speakers from ISA and other organisations.
The plans afloat are to mix and match crews and visitors and try out some techniques covered in the theory sessions, or have the fun of sailing on a different yacht, or of coaching a novice on the basics.

With more yachts afloat, and over 20 visitors racing with us this year so far, we’re sure to have a fun day at the next session.

Watch this space for dates and details.
