Appeal – old wetsuits

Would any members have old wet-suits of any size that they would be prepared to donate to the Sailing School’s inventory?

If so, please speak to Martin Coyle or Charlie McMonagle, or leave them in the Gents Changing Rooms in the Sailing School locker.

They will be well-used and much appreciated!

Many thanks!

Foyle Sailability Regatta 16-17 May – volunteers needed!

Foyle Sailability is a cross border project and is based on a very successful sailing venture in Belfast Lough (http://www.belfastloughsailability.com) for people with disabilities.

The aim is to establish a disabled sailing initiative for people with disabilities from across the North West.

In order to launch and create awareness, a ‘Regatta’ is being organised for 16 and 17 May in Derry City Centre.

Foyle Sailability is seeking support from Foyle Yacht Club, Moville Boat Club and Lough Swilly Yacht Club, particularly in terms of volunteering.

Kieran McAllister has kindly agreed to organise transportation for 4 adapted dinghies plus a Searover.

They need assistance with offloading the dinghies, launching, volunteering onshore and sailing on the day as well as reloading for going back to Carrickfergus.

It is also hoped that a number of boats from local clubs will be able to attend to give disabled people a run out and also to help in creating a spectacle to generate interest.

This is a very exciting and worthwhile initiative which can only be delivered and get off the ground with the goodwill of a pool of volunteers from local boat clubs.

So, please consider giving some time to this one-off event, which hopefully will lead to regular sailing activity for people with disabilities.

You do not need to commit to the two full days of the event.

White Harte Regatta

Our first regatta of the season is on this Saturday, 27 April 2013. Get out on the water to enjoy the fun, competition and the hospitality provided by the White Harte. Finger food and prize giving will take place there after racing.

Tides are early so we will aim to muster off Rathmullan pier for 1130am.

RSWC are also having a dinghy regatta which may be of interest to dinghy sailors. Their first race is at 1000am.

Lough Swilly Sailing School 2013

Details of this year’s Sailing School activity are now available on the club web-site, along with a downloadable application form.

Last year’s school was a resounding success, why not come along and join in the fun this year, and improve your dinghy sailing skills.
