Please find details of training for Foyle Sailability Volunteers taking place at the Foyle Marina next weekend. Please ensure that this is circulated this among your colleagues/membership.
VOLUNTEER TRAINING (Disability Awareness) – Saturday 5th April from 10am at the Foyle Marina, Derry.
It is disability awareness training specifically designed to give us a feel for what it is like to be a person with disabilities, how best to approach them and how best to facilitate access on and off the boats – this will sometimes require use of the hoist.
We will be working with each other on the day (not with people with disabilities). The new disabled dinghy Access 303, a cruiser and possibly one other motor boat will the used on the day.
It is vital that places are booked in advance of the training so that we make best use of your time during the session. Please let your club members and colleagues know. It will be a very worthwhile exercise and we understand that not all volunteers will be available for all dates so the more people we have trained the better it will be for coordinating events. To book a place please email: foylesailability
OFFICIAL LAUNCH of ACCESS 303 DINGHY – Saturday 5th April at 11am at the Foyle Marina, Derry
VOLUNTEER TRAINING (Practical Sailing) – Saturday 12th April at Belfast Lough Sailability, Carrickfergus – more details to follow.
The Foyle Sailability Regatta will take place on 18 and 19 June 2014 in advance of arrival of Clipper Boats – other dates are planned too!
We are all anticipating a good season and there are many exciting events coming up including the launch of our boat jumble on Sunday 27th April in the carpark in front of the clubhouse in support of one of our members charity challenge for cancer, Darren Robb will set sail from Foyle pontoon on 29th June 2014 in a GK24 to circumnavigate around Ireland in aid of Macmillan cancer support at Altnagalvin hospital, which has over 300 people from Donegal at present availing of their services.
This is quite a challenge and we would ask our members to get behind Darren in this epic voyage,we would be appealing for a few volunteers to bake for a cake stall please and members to gather up any boat jumble you have and bring it along , anyone wishing to do a short leg of this trip with Darren and his dog Tobin can contact him on the details below.
Anyone wishing to help out in any way should contact Darren Robb who is organising this event at the details below. This is a worthy cause.
