Clipper Homecoming Party – Sponsor a Raffle Prize

As part of the celebration evening for Derry~Londonderry~Doire on Friday June 27th, we intend to run a raffle with a selection of prizes, and donate the proceeds to the "DLD" crew fund. Each yacht has a fund for extras, repairs and treats during the race and relies upon the generosity of friends and family to help. The Committee thought that this would be a most useful gift for the crew, and would be much appreciated by everyone on board.

If you would like to donate a prize for the raffle on the night, please contact Richie Fearon.

Thanks to all, and let’s look forward to a great Lough Swilly Yacht Club event!

PS – tickets go on sale on-line today at 3pm and are expected to sell quickly – don’t miss out!!

Good Afternoon,

We’re writing to tell you about Ireland’s biggest sailing spectacle this year: the homecoming of the mighty Clipper Round the World Yacht Race into Derry~Londonderry as part of the LegenDerry Maritime Festival.

With Irish sailors in the Derry~Londonderry~Doire crew as well as among the international crews on several other yachts, after a journey of 40,000 nautical miles, this is set to be a homecoming party like no other.

We would be really grateful if you could spread the word among your members. Feel free to use any of this content to send out in your forthcoming newsletters or member emails or social media posts in the next few weeks.

The LegenDerry Maritime Festival will run from 21st – 29th June and we would love to see as many of Ireland’s sailing circle joining the party and enjoying the legendary hospitality of the City.

Why not join us on the water – the new Foyle Marina will be home to the Clipper Fleet and has space for 100 moorings, along with full facilities, event marquee, family entertainment, continental market and plenty of places to eat and drink. To secure your berth contact http://www.londonderryport.com/marina.htm – they’re going fast!

Carrying on Derry’s cultural heritage, Saturday 21st (Summer Solstice) is Music Day in Derry. The City will be alive with musical performances from dawn to dusk, from classical to traditional, buskers to bands all popping up around the quayside, pubs and landmarks.

If you fancy coming a little later in the week, book your mooring and spend the night in the company of none other than the Beach Boys! Their only Irish concert this year is on Thursday 26th June in Ebrington, a short walk from the Marina across the beautiful Peace Bridge. It’s the stuff California Dreams are made of and tickets are only £20 (www.millenniumforum.co.uk)

Saturday evening will see a stunning fire and water show on the River Foyle with floating stages, music and a Pirate-themed battle culminating with fireworks over the river.

And perhaps the most exciting opportunity for weekend sailors is the chance to be part of the Clipper Race send-off flotilla on Sunday 29th June. The race start will be from Greencastle off the North Eastern Coast of Donegal. The flotilla will leave the quayside race village in Derry on Sunday morning to make its way to the start – it will be a fantastic spectacle and you are invited to be part of it.

To top off the festival, the RAF Red Arrows will do their world-famous aerobatic display along the coastline on the afternoon of Sunday 29th.

So: who’s coming to join the LegenDerry Maritime Festival party?
