Round the Island Race Sunday 2pm

Hi all
A reminder of this sunday’s Round the Island Race at 2pm
A repeat of last year would be a treat!..and who could forget it? A race of true snakes and ladders…leaders became back markers and leaders again as 360 degree wind shifts played havoc!

Check out the pic attached..i’m not sure how Leda got out of that sandwich!!..but as the fleet diverged on the final upwind climb to the finish, a final wind shift brought us to the front of the pack! a nice feeling.

no doubt Tempo had a similar experience, as they pipped Class 2……………but that was 2010..and this is 2011!!

Start and Finish details will be made available on the day. Fleets will be IRC and Club Class 2.

As in previous years, we shall hold a presentation in the clubhouse after and we’re hoping our new cafe B-Calmed will keep its kitchens open and fill any empty stomachs..

Looking forward to seeing as many of you out on sunday as possible.

White Harte Cup Results

In lively conditions on Saturday, our Commodore arranged a schedule of three Olympic style courses off the pier at Rathmullan, and tested the fleet on spinnaker handling skills, finding some in need of the practice! The racing was very close, with the first three boats in Class Two finishing with equal points overall. The result was settled by an ISAF tie-break, and three seconds split the winners.

The White Harte hosted the prize-giving with music and a hearty buffet enjoyed by everyone there.

Thanks to Kevin McAteer in the White Harte for the hospitality and to Paul Hasson as our OD for a great day’s sailing.

Results:
CLUB Class
1st Seventh Heaven
2nd Tempo
3rd Boomerang

IRC Class
1st Desperado
2nd Drama Queen
3rd Hi Spirit

All results to date for events and series races are available on the 2011 Race Results page on the club web site www.loughswillyyc.com

LSYC Skippers & First Mates Update – White Harte Cup Sat 7 May

Hi all

The first ”el classico” of the season kicks off on Saturday with the White Harte Cup. The first chance of silverware and glory!

It hardly feels like a year has passed since Hi-Spirit and Tempo claimed their famous victories. Like bulls to a red flag they were.

Over the last number of years, we have been shown great hospitality by the White Harte, and this year we are welcomed with free berthing at the new pontoon for all participating boats, with a finger food and music reception at the White Harte.

The programme for the day is as follows:

· Racing will start at 11am.

· Racing will consist of 2 olympic style courses, with a short break between races for lunch.

· A starting gate will be established off the rathmullan pier.

· We are aiming to complete racing by 4pm.

· Reception and prize-giving at the White Harte from 4pm to 6pm.

There will be one IRC fleet and one Club Class Fleet. A White Sails fleet may also be established, given sufficient numbers.

In addition to the White Harte Cup event on Saturday, Rathmullan Watersports & Sailing Club are hosting a dinghy race [mixed craft] on the Friday evening, start time approx 7pm.

Last year’s event was of course won by our own Stephen Doherty and it would be a nice start to the weekend if LSYC can take the honours again. RWSC have offered a tow over on the Friday evening for any participants so please get in touch with me if you would like to take part.

The weather appears to be returning to normality for this part of the world, with a good mix of sun, wind and rain expected. Lets hope we get the best of it.

Looking forward to seeing as many of you over there as possible and until then, keep dreaming of glory!
