Lifeboat Regatta

The Lifeboat Regatta takes place this Saturday, 27th August, and we are looking forward to a good attendance to support the valuable work of RNLI in the area.

The Regatta will start at 1.30pm and details of the race(s) will be announced on the day. It is anticipated that racing will be finished by 4.00pm. The Lifeboat plan to come up to the marina for approximately 4.00pm (all being well) and have invited members to come and have a look round the boat. It is really worth going aboard – it’s a fascinating piece of machinery.

People are then asked to come to the clubhouse for refreshments and prize giving at 4.45pm. There will be a nominal entry fee of €5 per person, all proceeds in aid of the Lifeboat. Obviously we’ll be passing round the bucket too. Please come along and show your support for this vital service.

So, the schedule in summary:

1.30pm – Regatta Start

4.00pm – Racing completed

4.00 – 4.45pm – Lifeboat available for viewing

4.45pm – Prizegiving and Refreshments

Limeburner

The Limeburner Race is scheduled for this Saturday at 09.30. Unfortunately we’re not able to sail, so apologies in advance.

I’m not sure who will be sailing, but can I ask those who are to organise an OD to do the starting sequence. Yachts can then take their own time and email it to me a loughswillysailing@gmail.com, and I will pass times on to Kieran and Karen.

In terms of the course, can I suggest that yachts start at the Fahan start line, leave Swillymore to port, round Limeburner buoy, leaving it to starboard, leave Swillymore to starboard and finish at Spit, on a line 100metre to the east (Buncrana side) of spit, using the alignment between Kinnegar buoy and spit as the finishing line.

Good luck and enjoy.

Railway Tavern Regatta and Creek 7

Just a reminder of the arrangements for the weekend, which I hope you’re all looking forward to!

Railway Tavern Regatta: The Regatta will commence at 13.30 as scheduled. There will be some food available for us at the Railway Tavern at 4.30, where the prize giving will take place. Can I ask anyone who intends to go for food to be there at 4.30 sharp, as the Tavern has bookings for later and will need the tables.

Creek 7 and RNLI Fundraiser: A fundraising event has been organised for the RNLI (see earlier post). In order to facilitate this, we have brought forward the start of the Creek 7 Race to 14.30, with a finish at Spit (exact finish to be decided on the day). Boats can then join the cruise as they make their way from Dunree to Rathmullan as they wish.

FUND RAISING EVENT IN AID OF RNLI THIS SUNDAY 14th AUGUST

A fundraising event in aid of RNLI has been organised on the Swilly this coming Sunday, 14th August by some of the local boatmen. Arrangements have been made for boats to assemble at Dunree Fort at 3.30pm and cruise back to Rathmullan with the RNLI Lifeboats.

Lough Swilly Yacht Club has been asked to support the event and we would encourage as many of our boats as possible to attend.

The racers among you will be aware that the Creek 7 race is scheduled for 3.00pm that afternoon. In order to facilitate participation in the Fund Raising Event, it is proposed that the Race will be moved forward to 2.30pm and will finish at Spit, so that boats can then join the boats on their way from Dunree.

Apologies for the late notice on this one, but the arrangements only became clear to me today. There is a poster with details on the gate of the marina, but I’m afraid I haven’t the technical know how to put it on the website.’

In any case, LSYC will continue our support of RNLI and a bucket for contributions will be available in the clubhouse on the day. Don’t forget the Lifeboat Regatta in a few weeks time!
