Arrival of the new Shannon Class Lifeboat – Friday April 10th

On Friday April 10th, Lough Swilly Lifeboat Station will take delivery of the new Shannon Class Lifeboat, which will be arriving in the Lough around 11.00 am with a view to docking in the Lifeboat berth at Buncrana Pier at 12 noon.

As many of you know, our own Peter Eyre, an RNLI Naval Architect with family connections to LSYC, was instrumental in the development of the new lifeboat, designing the hull form at the age of 24!

The plans include an invitation for yachts and all seagoing craft to greet the new lifeboat north of Buncrana around White Strand Buoy / Stragill Beach as it makes its way from Dunree, and escort the new boat to Buncrana Pier, where we are invited to join in the on-shore celebrations.

A good turn-out from LSYC would make a fine spectacle for this fine new boat which will save lives around our coast for at least the next 25 years.
