On Friday April 10th, Lough Swilly Lifeboat Station will take delivery of the new Shannon Class Lifeboat, which will be arriving in the Lough around 11.00 am with a view to docking in the Lifeboat berth at Buncrana Pier at 12 noon.
As many of you know, our own Peter Eyre, an RNLI Naval Architect with family connections to LSYC, was instrumental in the development of the new lifeboat, designing the hull form at the age of 24!
The plans include an invitation for yachts and all seagoing craft to greet the new lifeboat north of Buncrana around White Strand Buoy / Stragill Beach as it makes its way from Dunree, and escort the new boat to Buncrana Pier, where we are invited to join in the on-shore celebrations.
A good turn-out from LSYC would make a fine spectacle for this fine new boat which will save lives around our coast for at least the next 25 years.
Its “All Hands On Deck” time!! Jane has slipped into 2nd place. Please ask all your friends, associates and even casual acquaintances to keep voting each day until Friday on each device which they have access to (Smart Phone, Laptop, iPad, Tablet & Desktop) You have 1 vote per day ON EACH DEVICE and the more people you can encourage to log on & vote the better via the link below or go directly to the Irish Echo site & the 40 Under 40 Competition.
Thank you so much.
PS Please make sure that the words THANK YOU FOR YOU VOTE come up at the top of the page showing the percentage of votes after you have voted. The words YOUR VOTE HAS ALREADY BEEN COUNTED mean that you are still inside your 24 hour period and cannot vote again until some time has elapsed.
If you are interested in a VHF radio course, we are trying to organise one for our two dinghy instructors. If we get 6 more candidates there’s a good chance it will run in the Clubhouse. I’m waiting for dates and cost to be confirmed, but I’m assuming it will be the same as last year, 6 weeks and 230 euro.
Members may be interested in attending this conference at the end of January. There is a good line up of speakers, the venue is cosy and it’s a fine way to pass a Saturday during the off season.
I am planning to go & can offer a lift if anyone wants one.
